چکیده
Experiments are conducted in an open-channel flow where half of the section is smooth and other consists array cubes, which either submerged or emergent. A shear layer featuring large-scale Kelvin–Helmholtz structures develops between two subsections. The flows first analysed framework double-averaging method (averaging both time space). Double averaging could be performed thanks to experimental set-up (three-dimensional, two-component telecentric scanning particle image velocimetry) that allows measure velocity field a large volume, including interstices cubes. momentum balance on subsection indicates loss towards rough has same order magnitude than through bed friction. On Coherent Structures of Turbulent Open-channel Flow Above a Rough Bed
Present study examines turbulent structures of a rough bed open-channel flow in the context of deterministic approach. Instantaneous velocity field is measured in different hydraulic conditions using two dimensional Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) in vertical plane and Stereoscopic PIV in horizontal plane. Different techniques and quantities such as swirl strength, two-point and cross-correlat...
متن کاملVariation of Streamwise and Vertical Turbulence Intensity in a Smooth and Rough Bed Open Channel Flow
An experimental study with four different types of bed conditions was carried out to understand the effect of roughness in open channel flow at two different Reynolds numbers. The bed conditions include a smooth surface and three different roughness conditions, which were generated using sand grains with a median diameter of 2.46 mm. The three rough conditions include a surface with distributed...
متن کاملVery-large-scale motions in rough-bed open-channel flow
Long-duration particle image velocimetry measurements in rough-bed open-channel flows (OCFs) reveal that the pre-multiplied spectra of the streamwise velocity have a bimodal distribution due to the presence of largeand very-large-scale motions (LSMs and VLSMs, respectively). The existence of VLSMs in boundary layers, pipes and closed channels has been acknowledged for some time, but strong supp...
متن کاملMathematical Modeling of Flow in a Granular Permeable Bed Channel
In this research, a two-dimensional mathematical model using turbulence model was developed in a rectangular channel with granular permeable bed. Finite volume method was used for numerical solution of governing equations. The equations considered are discretized using Hybrid difference scheme while applying SIMPLE algorithm to correct velocity components in the continuity equation. In the dev...
متن کاملTime-Average Velocity and Turbulence Measurement Using Wireless Bend Sensors in an Open Channel with a Rough Bed
This paper is motivated by the need to develop low cost, wireless velocity sensors for hydraulic research and application in streams. A velocity bend sensor (VBS) is a flexible plastic polyimide substrate sheet with an electronic resistor connected to a voltage divider. Drag of a moving fluid bends the sensor, changes the electronic resistance, and produces a voltage drop that can be related to...
